Friendship
Recommendation – How to read the words in the New Dictionary:
A word is a vessel through which essence, energy passes. The word is never the thing itself.
What is the real “thing”? It is good to answer this question in silence.
Therefore the invitation to this dictionary is “tricky”; it seems like it tries to replace one “definition” with another “definition” but it does not. This dictionary is an opportunity to look at a word from a different perspective than we are used to. And ask what is the essence of this word, coming from the mystery? From nature? From the inconceivable knowing that everything is one, everything is motion and I am a part of it?
From here you will find that the new “definition” sometimes sounds poetic or even irritating to the mind, because it cannot understand it. It’s OK. Let the words be a tool and listen to the energy that passes through them. That’s exactly what we came here to do.
Coming out of the knowing that everything is connected and everything is in motion:
Friendship is a relationship based on love and the knowing that every person is a wonder and a unique light. The basis of friendship is this knowing. It reminds me that in order to discover the wonder of myself and the other, I am required to agree and even ask that the other shake me up and wreak havoc on the very ordered beliefs that encompass this thing that I call myself – me. Only when the order is disturbed can the new be seen, can the true wisdom return and become the daily reality of life.
The reality created: I will ask the other person, my friend, to not reinforce this invented world of law and order, meant to protect me from the imaginary dragons of pain and fear. Instead, I will invite him to let his love, and also his mistakes, affect me and flow through me. I will embrace life with two hands and then, through lack of argument and lack of desire to direct things, from a quiet presence, I will be able to truly see. And our relationship will become a space for discovery and awakening that come from love and an honest heart.
“God, create in me a pure heart and renew a right spirit within me.”
We got used to thinking that
Friendship is a relationship that promises that I won’t get hurt, that I will help when needed, that I won’t let anything come between us even it means giving up or compromising, that I won’t face topics or behaviors that the other doesn’t want to experience. I won’t see what the other is afraid to see and I will agree to certain things, even long-term, for the sake of stability.
The reality created: I am directed by the mind, which wants to give me security so that I won’t feel pain in this complicated, complex and dangerous world. In a strong and stable contract of friendship, nobody will bother me or judge me. To assure myself of this security, I will do things of which I am ashamed. I will not be honest enough with myself to leave the cycle leading to me repeat these same acts, over and over again. And I will leave my friends in a cycle of suffering just to avoid facing these truths. As a result, people live side by side, as though together but separate, because true closeness and honesty threaten our adherence to these rules.
